More attractions and things to do in the region

While in Poatina, take a walk up to the recycled glass brick monument and enjoy a moment to learn about
the past, present and future stories of the Village. On the way, wander through the beautiful labyrinth,
and enjoy the twitter of native blue wrens, delicate yellow finches and other birdlife.
There are a number of easy, medium and hard tracks to walk or mountain bike ride. Some lead to gentle
flowing creeks where native yabbies have been found and the odd fish or two. Wallabies, Potaroos and
Fallow Deer can frequently be seen on these tracks. Detailed maps can be obtained from the Chalet.
Poatina's park has free electric barbecues, picnic table and playground for children and adults. The
Village also has two cricket nets and plenty of open space to play soccer or kick a footie around.
A 10 minute drive up the Great Western Tiers will bring you to the base of the Poatina Hydro Pipeline where its
possible to climb the 1000 steps to the top. Its well worth driving a further 5 minutes and stopping at
the lookout for some pretty spectacular views of the Midlands.
For the fisherman (or woman) at heart, Great Lake is a 15 minute drive from Poatina and the renown Brumpy's
Creek is only 10 minutes away. There are plenty of guided fishing tour operators in the region who are
more than keen to pass on their skill and knowledge of flyfishing, as well as show you how to land a
beautiful rainbow or brown trout.
Liffey Falls is very close by, as is Woolmers Estate, and other heritage towns with buildings dating back
to convict years. The region is a wealth of history to be explored, enjoyed and absorbed.
