Businessperson's Network Conference, July 2004 Being in the heart of Tasmania, Poatina Village is the ideal location for statewide conferences, seminars and group bookings. The Village's warm hospitality ensures delegates are comfortable with meeting facilities and hearty meals, and are able to concentrate on the important business of the conference.




Fusion Australia in Poatina runs a number of short-term and long-term training courses, from the dynamic Foundations Course to a Faith & the Arts Summer School, and nationally accredited Certificates III, IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in Youth & Community Work (Christian).


Poatina also offers a variety of other courses in conjunction with Trinity College and Tas Open Learning, such as hospitality, horticulture, child care, aged care, and more. All are valuable educational resources for the young people in our care.

Each year, Poatina Village invites the broader community to come and celebrate special days and activities. These include its high energy Australia Day Family Festival & Southern Cross Great Wheelbarrow Race in January; an annual Birthday Open Day in July where all aspects of the Village are on display, and in December, a festive and unique Christmas Celebration.

  • Media Production - Audio & Recording Studios - Each month, Mal Garvin's Breakthru Generation spots are produced and recorded in Poatina, and then sent to over 80 radio stations across Australia. The 60 second, 4 minute or 10 minute super special spots are both inspiring and challenging.

  • 95.7 HeartFM Community Radio Station - Poatina Village is home to the Northern Midlands' own communinity radio station.

    The easy listening format of the station begins each weekday with Maya on the Breakie Show, followed by stimulating live interviews of people from around the district with Mal Garvin on Tassie Mornings. Maya continues the Morning Show until David Bunt takes the chair with a lunchbox of country classics.

    From 3pm to 6pm, Steve and Catherine drive listeners home, and if you enjoy jazz, then tune in from 6 to 9pm. And for those young at heart, Sasha and the Captain Midnight team takes listeners through until midnight with CD reviews and a little more upbeat music.

    Listeners on the weekends enjoy Sports Shows, Out & About with live interviews from events around the district and “Conversation of the Nation”, which goes up via the Comrad satelite to over 70 stations across the nation from 9pm to midnight.

Poatina was purchased by Fusion Australia in 1995. An Aboriginal word meaning “shelter” or “cave”, Poatina provides a unique opportunity to care for homeless and unemployed young people in a supportive atmosphere and offers a wide range of training and job skills.
